Frequently asked questions...
?
As a counsellor, I understand that you may have some questions or concerns before starting therapy. Here are some of the most common questions I receive. If you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'm here to help.
-
What is counselling, and how does it work?Counselling provides a safe and confidential space for you to talk to a trained professional about your issues and concerns. They will help you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours to gain a better understanding of yourself and your relationships with others. The counsellor will not give you their opinions or advice. Instead, they will help you find your own solutions – whether that’s making changes in your life, or finding ways to cope with your problems.
-
How frequent are the sessions and how many will I need?Sessions are weekly and last for 50 minutes, usually at the same time and day each week. I have extensive experience in both short and longer-term counselling, but we can agree at the beginning how many sessions you’d like or need. We can then review it as we go along.
-
What happens in a session?I have experience in working in many different ways, so we can find an approach that works for you. Some clients prefer to use the space to freely discuss and explore, with the counsellor acting as a sounding board - and offering insights. Other clients may prefer sessions to be more directive – with structured tasks and exercises aligned to your needs. We will review our sessions regularly to make sure that you are getting what you need – adapting our approach if needed.

How do I know that my counsellor is a properly trained professional.Responsible counsellors belong to a professional body, such as the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This ensures that they are committed to providing a professional, safe and ethical service. I am a Registered Member of the BACP, which allows me to use this logo as proof of my professional status:
